Things are not clicking for Leroy Sané
Leroy Sane may have turned 29 on Saturday but based on his performance against Monchengladbach there was little cause for celebration. In the 5-1 demolition of RB Leipzig, just before the start of the recently concluded winter break, Sané showed glimpses of his best form and even managed to get his name on the scoresheet. Therefore, it was understandable for Vincent Kompany to give him the start on Saturday in the hopes of building on his performance in the last competitive game of 2024.
However, that was not to be the case. Whilst the Bayern attack was collectively disappointing on Saturday, with Olise being the exception, Sané was visibly the worst of the lot. In his 73-minute stay on the pitch, the German attacker failed to complete any of his attempted dribbles; was dispossessed on three occasions and won just one of his seven ground duels. To make matters more painful, Sané missed a wide-open goal two minutes before being replaced by Serge Gnabry. As things currently stand, it would not be surprising to see Sané plying his trade elsewhere next season.
