Even though there has been a flurry of transfer activity across Europe, Bayern Munich have been calm during the winter transfer window. The Bavarian club will not sign a new player this month as focus remains on the summer deals.
However, there could be departures at the club since several fringe players are attracting interest. Kim Min-jae has also been subject to interest from a couple of clubs as he is no longer the first-choice center-back option for Vincent Kompany. Fenerbahce and AC Milan have shown interest in the 29-year-old center-back.
The South Korean defender was also heavily linked with a move away from Bayern in the summer. Paris Saint-Germain and Al-Nassr had shown interest, but it never materialised into bids. The former Napoli defender ended up staying at Bayern.
It does look like Kim Min-jae has no plans to leave Munich midway through the season. While talking at a fan club meeting (via iMiaSanMia), Kim Min-jae insisted that he is happy in Munich and doesn’t plan to look for a transfer in January.
"The thought of a transfer never even crossed my mind", he told the fans. Kim also said that he feels comfortable in Munich, that the club welcomed him warmly since he arrived and that his goals for 2026 are to win the treble with Bayern, to establish himself more and to always be ready when needed."Kim Min-jae
Kim Min-jae was first choice center-back for Bayern last season, but the arrival of Jonathan Tah in the summer ensured he had to spend most of Hinrunde on the bench. He played only 686 minutes of football for Bayern during the first half of the season.
Despite his reduced game time in Hinrunde, Kim Min-jae may end up playing a crucial role during the second half of the campaign. With games coming thick and fast, Kompany will have to rotate to avoid injuries and keep all players fresh.
Summer could be an ideal time for Bayern to part ways with Kim Min-jae
Even though the South Korean defender wants to stay at Bayern for the rest of the season, it does look like a departure in the summer is on the cards. The 29-year-old defender had not been consistent enough over the last two and a half seasons to cement his position in the squad.
Bayern reportedly showed willingness in the summer to listen to offers for the South Korean defender. With two years left on his contract in the summer, it will be an ideal time for Die Roten to part ways with Kim Min-jae. The former Napoli center-back may need a move to play every weekend.
Die Roten are optimistic about extending the contract of Dayot Upamecano. They remain interested in Nico Schlotterbeck and Marc Guehi for the summer. However, a move for one of these two defenders will depend on the departure of Kim Min-jae.
