Bayern Munich saw one significant departure this week as Leroy Sane rejected the contract offer to join Galatasaray. The Bundesliga champions were keen on keeping Sane for next season, but they failed to reach an agreement on a new deal. Sane will play the group-stage games at the Club World Cup and leave Bayern after June 30.
Die Roten are looking to freshen up the squad this summer. As part of the process, they are ready to listen to offers for a few senior players. Kim Min-jae is one of the players who could leave Munich this summer.
The Bavarian club is not actively looking to part ways with the South Korean defender, but they will not stand in his way if an adequate offer arrives. It appears that Kim Min-jae is attracting interest from Europe and Saudi Arabia.
According to Foot Mercato, Paris Saint-Germain have Kim Min-jae on their list of targets to strengthen the defense. PSG’s sporting director, Luis Campos, has already met with the representatives of the South Korean defender.
Along with PSG, Al-Nassr have also shown concrete interest in Kim Min-jae. It has been previously reported that the South Korean defender is also weighing up a move away from Bayern this summer. Juventus had been previously linked with the South Korean defender, while Inter Milan and a return to Napoli have been mentioned in the Italian media during the last 12 months.
Kim Min-jae has struggled for consistency at Bayern
Ever since arriving from Napoli in 2023, Kim Min-jae has failed to show his best form in the Bavarian colours. He enjoyed a terrific first half of his debut season under Thomas Tuchel. However, after the Asia Cup in January 2024, the South Korean defender never got back to his early season form and lost his place in the starting XI.
Vincent Kompany reinstated Kim Min-jae back in the starting XI last season. He excelled alongside Dayot Upamecano in the heart of the defense. However, the 28-year-old defender’s form dipped in the second half of the season.
Kim Min-jae is certainly a good defender, but it would be a perfectly sensible decision for both parties if a transfer away from Munich is arranged this summer. The Bundesliga champions will look to recoup what they paid for him in 2023. Bayern will go back into the market for a center-back if the South Korean defender ends up leaving in the coming weeks. A resolution around his future is likely to come later in the window, as he is part of the squad for the Club World Cup.
