Bayern Munich had a strong end to the winter transfer window as they achieved the target of completing two internal transfers. They reached an agreement with Serge Gnabry over a new deal and, most importantly, managed to get Dayot Upamecano sign a new deal. The French defender was attracting interest from several clubs since he had less than six months left on his current contract.

There is still work to do for Bayern when it comes to contract extensions. The focus will shift to extending contracts of key players who have their current deals expiring in 2027. Harry Kane and Konrad Laimer are the two players who fall into this category.

Die Roten have already held preliminary talks with Kane. The English forward is content with life in Munich, showing his eagerness to sign a new contract. Bayern hope to tie down their talisman sooner rather than later.

Meanwhile, the situation with Konrad Laimer is slightly different. The Austrian midfielder is also happy with his role at Bayern as he continues to excel in the right-back position. There were reports in Germany suggesting that contract talks were coming to a positive conclusion with Laimer, but there is still no confirmation from the club.

While talking to SportBild recently (via iMiaSanMia), Laimer provided an update on the contract talks with Die Roten.

"There aren't many talks taking place at the moment. I'm still relaxed. You shouldn't overthink it."

Bayern shouldn’t hesitate about extending Laimer’s contract

Laimer had a slow start to life at Bayern Munich when he arrived from RB Leipzig in 2023. He was primarily used as a midfielder under Thomas Tuchel. However, things changed drastically for him under Vincent Kompany.

The Austrian has been largely deployed in the right-back position under Kompany. He has excelled in this position over the last 18 months, becoming one of the best right-backs in Europe. Laimer excels at both ends of the pitch, making him crucial to Kompany’s system.

The 28-year-old midfielder is the exact type of player every coach wants in their squad. He provides tactical flexibility due to their versatility and brings a lot of intensity out of possession. Laimer has steadily improved on the ball, making him an asset in the final third. The former RB Leipzig midfielder is at the peak of his career. Considering the qualities he brings to the table, Bayern should not hesitate to offer him a new contract.
