Bayern Munich have no significant plans to sign a midfielder this summer. They strengthened Vincent Kompany’s options in the center of the park by signing Tom Bischof in the winter transfer window. The German midfielder joined Bayern from Hoffenheim on a free transfer.
The Bundesliga champions have no further plans to sign another midfielder this summer. However, Bayern are open to selling one of their senior midfielders. João Palhinha has been subject to intense speculation around his future after a difficult debut campaign in the Bundesliga.
Palhinha arrived in Munich last summer, one year after a failed deadline move to Bavaria. The Portuguese midfielder was expected to play consistently alongside Joshua Kimmich in the center of the park. However, the Portuguese midfielder struggled for game time and form throughout last season. Bayern will reportedly not stand in his way if an adequate offer arrives this summer.
The former Fulham midfielder has consistently admitted that he has no plans to leave Bayern this summer and remains eager to fight for a place in the starting XI. It does look like Palhinha is slowly changing his mind regarding his future in Munich.
According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg (via iMiaSanMia), Palhinha is now open to leaving Bayern this summer. There have been no concrete offers for the Portuguese midfielder, but a few loose enquiries have been made. His future could become a big topic for discussion in the final stages of the transfer window.
Tottenham Hotspur showing interest in Palhinha
Europa League winners Tottenham Hotspur have been credited with interest in João Palhinha. However, the Athletic has reported that Spurs will only look for a loan move for the Portuguese midfielder. Die Roten would prefer a permanent transfer.
Fulham and Benfica have also been linked with a move for Palhinha, but Bayern are yet to receive any offers from both clubs.
Palhinha could struggle for game time at Bayern next season. Joshua Kimmich, Aleksandar Pavlovic, and Leon Goretzka are ahead of him in the pecking order. Bischof will further increase the competition in the center of the park. Palhinha needs adequate game time next season to feature in Portugal’s squad for the World Cup 2026.
A move to Spurs will appeal to Palhinha. He excelled in the Premier League during his time at Fulham. Moreover, he will get the opportunity to play in the Champions League. Spurs have a good relationship with Bayern since they have worked on several deals in the last three years. A permanent transfer will suit all parties.
