Bayern Munich are looking to balance the books in the summer by selling fringe players. The transfer fee accumulated from the departures will help offset the recent big contract renewals and fund the new signings. Bayern are also open to listening offers for players signed in the last 18 months.
Die Roten will not stand in the way if a good offer comes for Joao Palhinha. The Portuguese midfielder has struggled to establish himself in the starting XI since arriving from Fulham last summer. Palhinha had to be content with minutes from the bench in most of the games this season. Bayern had tried to sign Palhinha in 2023, but the move fell through in the last hour of the deadline day.
According to Christian Falk of Bild (via iMiaSanMia), Fulham are interested in bringing Palhinha back to London in the summer. The Premier League side will be keen on signing the Portuguese international if he is available at the end of the summer.
Palhinha has squashed speculation surrounding his future at Bayern. The 29-year-old midfielder is eager to establish himself at the Bavarian club. However, things may change if Bayern ask him to leave in the summer.
Bayern will have to make a loss on Palhinha
Despite Fulham’s interest in Palhinha, Bayern are unlikely to recoup the entire fee they paid for Palinha in 2024. The Portuguese midfielder joined Die Roten for €54 million (including add-ons). Falk has reported that Bayern will be fine with a fee between €35-40 million to sell Palhinha in the summer.
The Bavarian club will have more room to spend in the market if they get a decent fee for Palhinha and get him off the wage bill.
Considering how well Palhinha has played in the Premier League over the last few seasons, more clubs from England may join the race for his signature. Die Roten would ideally like a bidding war for the Portuguese midfielder to recoup their investment in him.
Die Roten have already strengthened the midfield for next season by signing Tom Bischof from Hoffenheim. The German midfielder will arrive in Munich at the end of the season on a free transfer. Leon Goretzka is also likely to stay, which has forced Bayern to look for a transfer solution for Palhinha. It remains to be seen if Rekordmeister will look to sign a replacement for Palhinha if he ends up joining Fulham.
