Thomas Müller’s contract at Bayern Munich runs out at the end of the season. If renewal doesn't materialize, the FC Bayern legend will be a free agent after 30th June 2025.
Müller’s recent retirement from International football sparked speculations on the possibility of his time at club level also coming to a close. However, the player has not yet made a decision on a possible retirement as all options remain open for the 35-year-old.
Müller appreciates the MLS
A report from SportBild (via iMiaSanMia) suggests that Müller hasn’t ruled out the possibility of joining another club once his contract expires at Bayern. The veteran could take his talents to the United States as the MLS has been quite appealing to him. However, it is certain that Müller will not consider the option to join another European club.
Thomas Müller is regarded as one of the last ‘one-club men’ in football. Should he join another club, that tag will no longer be attached to his name. The Raumdeuter has been with FC Bayern since 2001, initially with the youth teams, and then with the first team from 2008 onwards. During this period, he enjoyed tremendous success with the Bavarian club, lifting 31 major trophies and counting. Earlier this season, The Raumdeuter came off the bench against Freiburg to become Bayern’s record appearance maker, surpassing the great Sepp Maier.
Management and Media jobs lined up for Muller post-retirement
Bayern are keen on offering Müller an ambassador or management role after he retires from his playing career. Meanwhile, The DFB will also put an effort into convincing him to take a role in the German National Team. The 35-year-old has been a legend for both club and country so it will be a tough decision for him if he chooses a post-retirement career in management.
However, the report from SportBild suggests Müller isn’t necessarily keen on taking up a management role immediately after retiring as he has other lucrative options in Media and Broadcasting. He’s had several inquiries from TV stations to work as a football pundit. Known for his IQ on the field, one could very well imagine him analyzing football matches on a Sports show.
As of now, the experienced attacking midfielder has made it clear his focus is entirely on the season with FC Bayern. With three goals and three assists so far this campaign, the veteran is proving he can still contribute to the club despite playing limited minutes.
