Bayern Munich are exploring options in the transfer market to strengthen the full-back positions. The Bavarian club was heavily linked with Feyenoord’s Givairo Read, but this move has reportedly cooled down. Bayern are not concretely linked with other full-backs as of now.
Die Roten need reinforcements in the full-back positions since Raphael Guerreiro is leaving the club on a free transfer. The Bavarian club is also looking for a permanent exit for Sacha Boey after his successful loan spell at Galatasaray. Alphonso Davies has struggled with injuries this season, which reinforces the need for depth in the left-back position.
Konrad Laimer has been a reliable right-back, but talks for a new deal have stalled. As things stand, Laimer will enter the final year of his contract next season. Josip Stanisic is the only full-back option who looks injury free and has a long-term contract sorted at Die Roten.
Bayern do not actively need reinforcements in central defense. Any movement in this area of the squad will depend on departures. However, a versatile defender like Raphael Guerreiro could be an ideal signing in defense for Bayern in the summer. It does look like the Bundesliga champions are keeping tabs on a versatile defender from Portugal.
According to TZ (via iMiaSanMia), Bayern are interested in Benfica defender Tomas Araujo. The 23-year-old defender can play in the heart of the defense and right-back position for Benfica. Araujo has been a key player for Benfica this season, playing 32 games across all competitions.
Araujo’s good performances at the club level helped him earn a spot in Portugal’s World Cup squad. Benfica will ask for a formidable fee for the young defender since his current deal expires in 2029.
Bayern may prioritise strengthening the attack before defense
Considering the noise in the German media about Bayern’s transfer targets, it does look like the priority for the club is to improve Vincent Kompany’s options in the attack. They have identified Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon as their top target.
Bayern have reportedly agreed personal terms with Gordon. The English forward is pushing for a move to Munich, but there is a significant gap between the two clubs’ valuations. Newcastle United are resigned to losing Gordon in the summer after missing out on the Champions League qualification for next season.
Die Roten will probably turn their attention to defense once they secure the signing of Gordon. There will be more clarity on Bayern’s transfer target to improve the defense in the coming weeks.
