After suffering disappointment in the Champions League, Bayern Munich will look to reinforce the squad to excel in the European competition next season. The Bavarian club is looking to bolster their attack for next season by signing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United.
Bayern have started working on the deal to bring Gordon to Munich. According to Talksport journalist Ben Jacobs, Bayern have reached a broad agreement with Gordon on a long-term contract. However, there remains a significant gap in the transfer fee valuation between Die Roten and Newcastle United.
The Bundesliga champions remain in talks with Newcastle to find an agreement. The Tyneside club is looking for a fee closer to €87 million. As per TZ, Bayern are ready to go up to €70 million for the England international.
Meanwhile, Bild (via iMiaSanMia) is reporting that the supervisory board at Bayern is backing the pursuit of Gordon and have given the green light to Max Eberl to complete the transfer. Die Roten will hope to leverage the English forward’s willingness to join them when it comes down to bringing down the fee.
Bayern face competition from big clubs in Premier League
Talksport has reported that Newcastle United are confident about getting a fee closer to 87 million due to interest from several clubs in Gordon. FC Barcelona recently met the representatives of Gordon, but the Spanish club will struggle to meet Newcastle’s valuation.
Bayern’s biggest competitor is not Barcelona. There is interest from Newcastle United’s Premier League rivals in the former Everton forward. Chelsea have been credited with interest in the 25-year-old. According to The Daily Mail, Arsenal and Liverpool are also interested in Gordon. Considering his good performances in the Premier League, there is a good chance other big Premier League clubs will also show interest in Gordon.
However, Die Roten have been successful in getting top-quality forwards from Premier League clubs in the last three summer windows. Harry Kane, Michael Olise, and Luis Diaz have been successful Premier League transfers to Bayern. There is also a strong argument for saying that they may end up being the top five transfers of the last decade for Bayern.
In an ideal scenario, Bayern wrap up the deal to sign Gordon before the World Cup. His price will go up if he excels for England in the tournament later this summer. Newcastle United are tough negotiators as they showed during Liverpool’s long drawn pursuit of Alexander Isak last summer. It will take extra effort from Die Roten to clinch this deal at the start of the summer transfer window.
