Ironically with the loss Kompany could be closer to silencing his critics

When a game is played out 10 vs 11 for all but 73 minutes, the team with 11 men would naturally be expected to dominate and clinch a comprehensive victory.

However, this victory for Leverkusen, though expected with the man advantage, was anything but impressive. As previously alluded to Bayern dominated proceedings for large portions of the game despite being a man down. The team still played with confidence even after conceding the goal.

Coach Vincent Kompany managed to keep self-belief in his troops despite playing with a false nine. If Bayern had a genuine backup number nine to Harry Kane, the final result may very well have been in Bayern’s favour despite playing 73 minutes with only 10 men. Kompany deserves credit for the courage his men showed with the odds against them and also for being tactically flexible. Bayern Munich may have lost their first home game of the season, but they played like champions. (All stats courtesy: Fotmob)
