Bayern Munich were running against time to get a deal over the line for Nicolas Jackson on deadline day. The Bavarian club had agreed a loan fee with Chelsea previously, but the London-based club decided to cancel the deal after Liam Delap suffered a serious injury.
The Senegalese forward was in no mood to go back to Stamford Bridge and decided to stay in Munich to force a transfer. Eventually, Bayern agreed to a slightly higher loan fee to seal the deal. Jackson arrived on a one-year loan with an obligation to buy if certain conditions are met. Die Roten paid a loan fee worth €16.5 million, and to make the move permanent, they will have to pay €65 million next summer.
It was a monumental loan fee paid by Die Roten. However, they had inserted very demanding conditions for the move to become permanent. Jackson had to start or play at least 45 minutes in 40 games across all competitions this season to ensure Bayern had to pay the agreed fee for the permanent move.
According to AZ, the clause to buy Jackson will not kick in for Bayern since it is no longer realistically possible for Jackson to start or play at least 45 minutes in 40 games this season. The former Villarreal forward has only played 6 games that meet this condition, and Die Roten can at most play 33 more games in the next six months. Moreover, Jackson will miss several games in January since he will be away at AFCON playing for Senegal.
The Athletic in England is also reporting that there is next to no chance of Bayern signing Jackson permanently under current conditions. Chelsea have no plans to negotiate a new fee with Die Roten as they believe there will be concrete interest from Premier League and European clubs in him at the end of the season. Jackson is calm about the situation and remains keen on making the most of his loan spell at Bayern.
Jackson has blown hot and cold for Bayern Munich
Unlike Luis Diaz, Jackson has not hit the ground running for Bayern. The Senegalese forward has made 14 appearances for Die Roten this season, but he has started only five games. In these 14 appearances, Jackson has scored four goals and provided one assist.
The 24-year-old forward needed outstanding output for Bayern to give him more starts. Having Harry Kane as the main number nine at the club doesn’t help Jackson’s cause. The English forward has been scoring for fun and remains physically fit to play week in week out.
Jackson will need an extraordinary next six months to convince Bayern to negotiate a new fee with Chelsea. As things stand, it will be a big surprise if the former Villarreal forward will be playing in the Bavarian colours next season.
