It was a rollercoaster weekend for Bayern Munich on and off the pitch. They had to see out a late surge from Augsburg to get all three points on matchday two of the Bundesliga. Off the pitch, it has gone from relief to despair to back again relief on Monday in the transfer market.

Fabrizio Romano, Sky Sports in Germany, and several media outlets in England have reported that Bayern have successfully revived the deal to sign Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea. The Senegalese forward is poised to complete a move before the end of the transfer window later today.

Chelsea had previously agreed a loan deal with an option to buy with Bayern for Nicolas Jackson early on Saturday. Jackson was given permission to undergo medical in Munich. However, Liam Delap suffered a serious injury on Saturday afternoon, which forced the London-based club to revoke Jackson’s permission to undergo medical.

The Senegalese forward was eager to push through a move to Bayern. He didn’t return to London as Bayern tried to resurrect the deal. Chelsea managed to add depth in their attack by recalling Marc Guiu from his loan spell at Sunderland. This move from the London-based club opened the doors for Jackson’s departure. Eventually, the defending Bundesliga champions manage to rework a deal for the 24-year-old forward on deadline day.

Chelsea extract a slightly bigger fee from Bayern

Chelsea have managed to squeeze more money from Bayern while reworking the deal. The Bavarian club had initially agreed a loan fee of €15 million for Jackson. After fresh negotiations on Monday, Bayern will now pay €16.5 million for the 24-year-old forward.

The London-based club has also inserted an obligation to buy for €65 million next summer, provided certain conditions are met. Previously, Bayern only had the option to buy Jackson. Chelsea are the massive winners from this deal as they got a chance to rework the final agreement and tilt it in their favour.

Bayern will be pleased to give Vincent Kompany another option in the attack after overseeing several departures from the first team. Jackson was also keen on completing the move to Munich since he was not part of the long-term plans at Chelsea.

Despite getting the deal for Jackson over the line, Bayern need to review and assess the disappointing transfer window. They had more losses than wins this summer as they struggled to get deals done for their top targets. For now, the club hierarchy will be working around the clock to complete the paperwork since the window is shut in Europe. The deal sheet is in for Jackson, so clubs get two more hours to complete the formalities of the transfer.
