Bayern Munich have been busy dealing with Pini Zahavi this summer. The super-agent helped Bayern complete the deal for Jonathan Tah earlier this week. The German defender sealed a move to Die Roten despite concrete interest from FC Barcelona.
Max Eberl, Bayern’s director of sport, was spotted having a meal with Zahavi in Munich this week. The meeting was reportedly focussing on the contract extension of Leroy Sane. The German winger has a month left on his current deal.
Bayern had an agreement in place with Sane for a new contract a few weeks ago. However, Sane switched agents at the last moment and appointed Zahavi to lead negotiations for him. Since hiring Zahavi, Sane has rejected the contract proposal made by Bayern. The club chiefs have been adamant about not improving the terms of the contract, but it does look like talks with Zahavi have softened this stance.
According to Sky Sports in Germany, Bayern have modified their contract offer for Sane. The revised offer will see Sane have a bigger fixed salary, but the overall package is likely to remain the same. Die Roten’s previous offer was worth €15 million (€10 million fixed plus €5 million in bonuses).
Die Roten will hope to receive a final answer from Sane in the coming days. The German winger has consistently insisted that he feels settled in Munich, so it is just a matter of getting the numbers aligned regarding the new contract.
Sane will play for Bayern Munich in the Club World Cup
As things stand, Sane is expected to play for Bayern at the Club World Cup. The tournament will begin in mid-June. The German winger will be part of the squad since his current deal expires on June 30. The club chiefs would ideally like to see Sane’s future sorted before the start of the Club World Cup.
Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are showing concrete interest in the 29-year-old winger. Sane shone for Manchester City during his four-year stint between 2016 and 2020. It is no surprise to see big London clubs showing interest in him.
After losing out on Florian Wirtz, it is crucial for Bayern to keep Sane in the squad for next season. Kingsley Coman is expected to leave in the summer, so Bayern need to stay and become the senior player in the wide positions. Moreover, he has excelled under Vincent Kompany, enjoying his most productive season in the Bundesliga. The Bavarian faithful will hope that Zahavi can get one more deal over the line for Bayern this summer.
