Bayern Munich extended their perfect start to the Bundesliga campaign by clinching a comfortable 4-0 win against Werder Bremen on Friday. The win against Werder Bremen helped Die Roten to maintain a lead of two points over Borussia Dortmund.
Along with the results, Bayern have also ensured that performances are of high quality this season. The performance against Werder Bremen was no different. Tom Bischof was one of the top performers for Die Roten in the game.
Since Joshua Kimmich was under the weather during the week, Kompany decided to hand Bischof his first Bundesliga start for Bayern. The German midfielder delivered a near-perfect performance in the center of the park. He kept the play ticking when Die Roten dominated possession. Bischof was also solid defensively whenever Bremen threatened to attack.
The young German midfielder capped off a good performance with an assist for Konrad Laimer’s goal. While talking to the media after the game (via iMiaSanMia), Manuel Neuer had special praise for Bischof after his solid performance against Werder Bremen.
"He always gives it his all in training and is a special player who can be very dangerous in the box. He has taken a good step with his starting debut today – for himself and for the team."Manuel Neuer
Bischof will get ample number of opportunities at Bayern this season
The game against Werder Bremen showed that Bischof is a signing for the present and future. He has decent Bundesliga experience under his belt, which will help him to get minutes in the league for Bayern.
Moreover, Bayern don’t have several options in the midfield. They specifically made space for Bischof by parting ways with Joao Palhinha. The youngster should aim to get at least 15 starts this season across all competitions. In Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka, Bischof has perfect mentors to fine-tune his game in the center of the park.
Kompany has done well to integrate young players into the first team. Lennart Karl and Bischof have benefited the most and are likely to get more game time if they make the most of their opportunities. Good performances at the senior level could boost their chances of making it to Germany’s squad for the World Cup.
With games coming thick and fast, Bischof could soon get an opportunity to start in the Champions League. He is likely to be on the bench against Pafos on Tuesday since Kimmich has recovered from illness. However, the German international is likely to get game time from the bench as Kompany looks to manage the workload of senior players.
