On Friday night, at the Allianz Arena, Bayern Munich registered a comprehensive 4-0 victory against a struggling Werder Bremen side.
The home team dictated the tempo from the opening whistle. After being denied a goal on a few occasions, they eventually took the lead midway through the first half when Jonathan Tah cleverly flicked in a cross from Michael Olise. Harry Kane won and converted a penalty kick just before the half-time whistle.
After the break, Kane scored his second and Bayern’s third of the night. Konrad Laimer scored the fourth goal late on to add further gloss to the scoreline. From a game in which most of Bayern’s players acquitted themselves well, let’s have a look at three who arguably stood out in the matchday five victory.
Tom Bischof
With Joshua Kimmich under the weather, Vincent Kompany handed Tom Bischof his maiden Bundesliga start. The 20-year-old defensive midfielder didn't disappoint the head coach.
Bischof displayed multiple facets of his game. Firstly, he superbly anchored Bayern’s midfield with his sensible positioning and reading of the game. Defensively, he completed seven recoveries, made two interceptions, won his only tackle, and also blocked a shot. He also pressed and counter-pressed well.
In the attack, he created three chances, including the assist to Laimer for the fourth goal. Over the course of the game, Bischof had 96 touches and found a teammate with 92% of his passes (77/84). Eight of his passes were into the final third, and he completed two of three with long passes he attempted.
