The last two days of the transfer window will see activity on departures at Bayern Munich. The defending Bundesliga champions have completed the business on the arrival front. They have to define the futures of a couple of fringe players in the squad.
It does look like there has been a breakthrough in the loan exit of Arijon Ibrahimovic. According to Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Bayern have agreed a season-long loan deal with Augsburg for Ibrahimovic.
Sky Sports in Germany have also confirmed this news. Augsburg will pay a loan fee of €500k and have an option to sign Ibrahimovic on a permanent deal next summer for €8 million. Bayern have not inserted a buyback clause in this deal.
While talking to the media on Thursday, Bayern’s director of sport, Max Eberl, admitted that Ibrahimovic will have to seek a transfer to get adequate game time. The Bavarian club is open to doing a deal if it suits all parties. Werder Bremen were heavily linked with a move for Ibrahimovic, but Augsburg have managed to beat Werder to sign the young forward.
It is a surprising turn of events for Ibrahimovic. Bayern had decided to keep him in the squad as a backup to Luis Diaz on the left flank. Die Roten offered him a new contract until 2028.
Ibrahimovic had a productive loan spell at FC Heidenheim. He was excited to be part of the first team this season. Vincent Kompany had included Ibrahimovic in the matchday squad against Borussia Dortmund in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup and the Bundesliga opener against VfB Stuttgart. The 20-year-old was an unused substitute in both games.
It does look like positive performances from Nathaniel Brown in the attack forced Ibrahimovic to look for a move away from Bayern. Brown played in the number ten position against Stuttgart and Dortmund. He was signed to provide depth in the left-back position, but can play in different positions behind the striker.
Bayern yet to receive bid for Sacha Boey
The record Bundesliga champions are also looking to find a club for Sacha Boey before the transfer window closes on Tuesday. The French full-back was not included in the matchday squads for the first two games of the season.
Boey had attracted interest from the Premier League, but Die Roten are yet to receive concrete bids for him. The French defender had spent the second half of last season on loan at Galatasaray.
