It is no secret that Bayern Munich will go all out for Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz next summer. The German star is Die Roten’s top target to strengthen the attack. Wirtz has been consistently linked with a move to Bavaria over the last few years.

Bayern will face competition from several big clubs in Europe for the German international. Wirtz reportedly prefers a move to Munich over Real Madrid, which suggests that Die Roten will have an upper hand over other clubs. However, they are going to face a big hurdle in the form of Bayer Leverkusen.

According to Kicker, Bayer Leverkusen are looking to extend the contract of Florian Wirtz at least until 2028. The German attacking midfielder considers a contract extension at Leverkusen an interesting scenario. Wirtz’s entourage is weighing up this option strongly since it will allow him to keep growing at Leverkusen before making the big move in the future.

Bayer Leverkusen will have significant leverage over a transfer fee if they manage to extend Wirtz’s deal until 2028. His current contract expires in 2027. In an ideal scenario for Bayer Leverkusen, Wirtz shines for them in the next 18 months and goes for a big fee in 2026 instead of 2025.

Bayern Munich have alternative target to Wirtz for 2025

Even if Bayer Leverkusen extend Wirtz’s contract, Bayern will explore a deal for the German international. If they fail to land Wirtz in 2025, Die Roten will try to sign Xavi Simons from Paris Saint-Germain.

The Dutch attacking midfielder was heavily linked with a move to Bavaria in the summer. However, he eventually agreed to another season on loan at RB Leipzig. Since the clauses in his contract, which gives PSV Eindhoven some share of the transfer fee, expire next summer, PSG will listen to permanent offers for the Dutch attacking midfielder.

It looks certain that Bayern will sign at least one exciting young attacking talent next summer. They will try their best for Wirtz, but there is a solid backup option for the German international in the market. With several months left in the season, there will be several twists and turns to come in the pursuit of Wirtz.

Along with signing an exciting attacker next summer, Bayern also want to solidify their attacking options by reaching an agreement over a contract renewal of Jamal Musiala. The club chiefs believe Musiala can be the face of the club for the next decade.
