Bayern Munich signed Ismael Saibari from PSV Eindhoven in the summer to strengthen the attack. Saibari was effectively replacing Nicolas Jackson in the squad. Jackson joined Bayern on loan from Chelsea last summer. He returned to Stamford Bridge in the summer as Die Roten decided against activating the option to buy him on a permanent deal.
Saibari can play behind the striker or lead the line as he does for Morocco. The 25-year-old can also play on the flanks if needed, but he is best utilized in the central positions.
Die Roten’s primary area to strengthen the attack was a left-sided forward. They wanted to provide more cover for Luis Diaz. The Colombian is the only designated left-sided forward in the current squad. There are several makeshift options for this role, but Diaz has consistently started in this position since arriving from Liverpool in 2025.
Bayern wanted to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United for the left-wing role. However, the English forward’s valuation was beyond Bayern’s reach. FC Barcelona eventually agreed a deal with Newcastle United to sign Gordon.
Die Roten quickly pivoted to sign Saibari from PSV after missing out on Gordon. According to Bild (via iMiaSanMia), Bayern remain keen on signing a left-sided forward. They are exploring options in the transfer market. If the right opportunity arises, Die Roten will not hesitate to make a move in January.
Diaz’s slow start to the season does call for more depth on the left flank
After playing non-stop last season and a small summer break, the effects of fatigue have caught up with Luis Diaz. The Colombian has endured a slow start to the season, scoring only one goal in seven games across all competitions.
Diaz will eventually get up to speed, but his early-season slump highlights the need for a good backup option on the left flank. Die Roten are doing the right thing by keeping this position a priority to address in the upcoming transfer windows.
In an ideal scenario, Bayern sign a young winger who can fill in for Diaz when needed at this point and eventually develops well to become Diaz’s successor. The options will be limited in January since clubs don’t want to lose key players midway through the season. However, Die Roten should ensure they have a deal in place for the summer if they have identified their top target for this position by January.
The former Liverpool forward has decided to sit out the international break, which should give him time to rest and recuperate. Diaz will most likely look sharper when competitive football resumes in October.
