Bayern Munich's emerging star eyes first start for Germany
Aleksandar Pavlović has enjoyed a meteoric rise at Bayern Munich in the last 12 months. After making his debut under Thomas Tuchel last season, Pavlović has gone from strength to strength and impressed at the top level. The 20-year-old is looking to make big strides with the German national team.
Pavlović was selected in Germany’s provisional squad for the Euro 2024. However, illness due to tonsilitis made sure that he had to sit out of the tournament. He has already made his debut for Germany during the buildup to the European Championship in the summer.
The next step for Pavlović at the international level is to break into the starting XI under Julian Nagelsmann. Considering the quality of his performances at the club level, the day he starts for Germany is not far. While talking to the media this week (via iMiaSanMia), Pavlović insisted that he is working hard to impress Julian Nagelsmann.
"My aim is always to want to play. But in the end, it's the coach who decides. I can only do my best in training and recommend myself, then we'll see."
- Aleksandar Pavlović
Germany will be playing against Netherlands and Bosnia & Herzegovina in the current international break. Pavlović is likely to get a considerable amount of game time, but it remains to be seen if Julian Nagelsmann will hand him a start in one of these two games.
Pavlović’s market value rises after good start to the season
After enduring a disappointing summer with Germany, Pavlović has hit the ground running this campaign. Courtesy of playing well regularly under Vincent Kompany, the market value of Pavlović has been on the rise. According to the latest update from the Transfermarkt, Pavlović is valued at €50 million. It is credit to Pavlović and Bayern for developing him into a top-quality player in quick time.
Pavlović has made sure that João Palhinha has to wait for consistent starts at Bayern. The Portuguese midfielder arrived in Bavaria at the start of the summer with the expectation of being the club’s first-choice midfielder. However, the good performances of Joshua Kimmich and Pavlović have ensured Palhinha’s slow integration into the starting XI.
Bayern have done well to secure the future of Pavlović. The 20-year-old midfielder signed a new deal until 2029 during the summer transfer window. Die Roten hope to see Pavlović as part of the team’s spine in the long term. The German midfielder is a perfect role model to follow for players coming out of the club’s academy. Die Roten need top-level players coming out of the academy to complement the established stars they buy in the transfer market.
