Bayern Munich chiefs managed to achieve the targets set for the winter transfer window. They have managed to define the futures of key players. Bayern have confirmed contract extensions for Serge Gnabry and Dayot Upamecano.  Meanwhile, Sacha Boey left the club on a loan deal to Galatasaray.

The Bavarian club will now start focusing on the targets for the summer transfer window. Die Roten have also made a crucial decision on the future of one forward, which potentially makes signing a forward mandatory at the end of the season.

According to The Times, Bayern have decided against pursuing a permanent deal for Nicolas Jackson at the end of the season. The Senegalese forward will return to Chelsea in the summer. It remains to be seen if he has a future at Stamford Bridge since Enzo Maresca has left the club and Liam Rosenior has become the head coach.

The record Bundesliga champions signed Jackson on deadline day from Chelsea for a loan fee close to €16.5 million. Bayern had to make the move permanent for 65 if Jackson had played €45 minutes or more in 40 games across all competitions. It was always a long shot that Die Roten would have to activate the option since Jackson wouldn’t have met this criterion due to the AFCON and his late arrival at the club. Most importantly, he had to compete with Harry Kane for the number nine position.

The Times has also reported that Bayern have no intention to negotiate a new deal with Chelsea for Jackson. Die Roten will look at other attacking options in the summer.

Jackson will have plenty of options in the summer

Even though Jackson has not been an outright success at Bayern, he will have plenty of options in the summer. He was unfortunate to compete with Kane for a place in the starting XI at Bayern. The Englishman is currently the best number nine in Europe. Moreover, Jackson didn’t have a proper pre-season since he was training away from the first team at Chelsea.

In short cameos at Bayern, Jackson has shown glimpses of his talent. He has scored five goals in 638 minutes of game time for Bayern this season. With consistent game time, he can certainly be a good player for several top clubs in Europe.

Jackson still has a role to play for Bayern in the next three months as Bayern are competing on all fronts. Since he is looking for a move in the summer, the business end of the season can be a good shop window for Jackson.
