Bayern Munich are expected to strengthen the attack in the summer. The injury to Serge Gnabry has highlighted the need for more depth in the wide positions next season. Bayern are specifically looking to sign a wide player to provide more cover on the left flank. As things stand, Luis Diaz is the only natural left winger in the squad.
The Bundesliga champions are showing concrete interest in Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon. The English winger is open to considering a transfer in the summer as the Tyneside club looks set to miss out on European football for next season.
Bayern are not expecting big sales in the attack. However, Nicolas Jackson is expected to return to Chelsea after the end of the season. The Senegalese forward arrived from Stamford Bridge on a loan deal with an obligation to buy if he ends up playing a certain number of games.
Jackson was on the scoresheet against Mainz, but he has not managed to start and play the required number of games to activate the option of permanent transfer. While talking to ZDF on Saturday (via Sky Sport's journalist Florian Plettenberg), Max Eberl confirmed that Jackson will return to Chelsea in the summer as Bayern are not planning to activate the option to sign him permanently.
"We will not trigger the option for Nicolas Jackson."Max Eberl
Bayern had signed Jackson on the deadline day last summer on a loan deal from Chelsea. The Bavarian club paid a hefty loan fee of €16.5 million and agreed to an obligation to buy for €65 million if Jackson plays a certain number of games.
Jackson will have plenty of options in the summer
Jackson has made 28 appearances for Bayern in the Bundesliga and Champions League, but has only managed to accumulate game time of 1148 minutes. He has scored 10 goals and provided three assists for Die Roten this season. Despite him averaging a goal just over 100 minutes of action, it doesn’t make sense financially for Bayern to pay such a big fee to sign him permanently.
The Senegalese forward will return to Chelsea in the summer. With another coaching change expected at Stamford Bridge, the door to stay at the club may open for Jackson. Vincent Kompany has sung praises of Jackson throughout the season. His output has been good, which suggests there will be concrete interest from other clubs in the summer. For now, Jackson will hope to win the treble with Bayern this season. He has an important role to play from the bench in the final weeks of the season.
