Bayern Munich are garnering plaudits from rival clubs, players, and fans for their consistent performances this season. After a quiet start to 2026, Bayern picked up where they left off in the first half of the season.

The defending Bundesliga champions booked their place in the quarter-final of the Champions League with a 10-2 win against Atalanta. They are on the verge of breaking the most goals for a club in one Bundesliga season, which highlights how relentless Vincent Kompany’s men have been this season.

The Belgian coach has done a terrific job at Bayern since arriving from Burnley in 2023. He instantly helped the team to regain the Bundesliga title this season. The Belgian coach has got the team playing high-intensity, entertaining football.

Kompany deserves every bit of praise and plaudits for his incredible work at Bayern, as there were several eyebrows raised when Bayern appointed him to replace Thomas Tuchel. While talking to Kicker last week, Uli Hoeness also admitted that he was sceptical about appointing Kompany as the head coach of Bayern.

"We were skeptical at first; he was the fourth or fifth person we spoke to. I'm thinking of Julian Nagelsmann, Ralf Rangnick, Thomas Tuchel at first, and also Oliver Glasner, who would have come had Crystal Palace released him. Vincent was Max Eberl's idea. The first meeting took place at restaurant, with Herbert Hainer, Max, Christoph Freund, Vincent, and his father, a former mayor in Belgium. After half an hour, I gave Max a thumbs-up; I knew: This is him!"

Bayern had to go through a tedious process to find replacemnt of Tuchel. The Bavarian club was also considering the idea of keeping Tuchel for one more season. However, the German coach decided against staying for one more season. Die Roten eventually made their move for Burnley and sealed the deal in no time.

Kompany had done a brilliant job at Club Brugge, which helped him move back to English football. He helped Burnley to win the Championship and get the team promoted to the Premier League in his first season. Burnley played an attractive style of football under Kompany. Even though Burnley got relegated in Kompany’s first season in the Premier League, his style of football received a lot of praise.

Kompany expected to attract interest from Bayern’s European rivals

Bayern are competing for a treble this season under the leadership of Kompany. The Belgian coach has helped the team to reach a new level this season as they have been the best offensive team in Europe.

The Belgian coach will attract the attention of other big European clubs. Manchester City reportedly have him on the list of options to replace Pep Guardiola in case the Spaniard leaves in the summer.

Bayern are relaxed about Kompany’s future as they extended his contract until 2029 earlier this season. Kompany feels settled in Munich, and the players like working with him. Hoeness and the Bavarian faithful will hope things continue to move in the right direction under Kompany.
