Bayern Munich are shuffling the squad for next summer. They aim to maintain a fine balance between incoming and outgoing traffic. There are question marks over the futures of a few players in the squad, despite their inclusion in the squad for the Club World Cup.

Sacha Boey is one of the players in the current squad fighting for his future at Bayern. The French right-back has struggled with injuries ever since arriving from Galatasaray in January 2024. He scored against Auckland City FC on Saturday, but Boey is not the first-choice right-back option for Die Roten.

Konrad Laimer and Josip Stanisic are ahead of Boey in the pecking order for the right-back role. Meanwhile, Boey has been linked with a return to Galatasaray. The Turkish club is interested in the French right-back, and Bayern are also open to listening to offers for Boey.

Bayern’s director of sport, Max Eberl, has been talking candidly to the media in the USA about the transfer plans and futures of players in the squad. While talking to the media last week (via iMiaSanMia), Eberl admitted that the future of Boey is open, and he insisted that they have too many options in the right-back position.

"Every player has a chance in every game. Konny Laimer played an outstanding season at right-back, which was surprising for many - but not for us. With Konny, Stani and Sacha, we have three right-backs, that's a fact. That's too many players for one position. Sacha is here now and will play for us at the CWC, then we'll see"
Max Eberl on Sacha Boey

Boey has a lot to do at the Club World Cup to stay at Bayern next season. Konrad Laimer was exceptional in the right-back role last season, while Josip Stanisic is part of Bayern’s long-term plans. The French defender will have to make the most of his opportunities in the next few weeks to be part of Vincent Kompany’s plans for next season.

Vincent Kompany wanted to sign Sacha Boey at Burnley a couple of years ago. His arrival in Munich was expected to boost Boey's chances of excelling for Die Roten. However, consistent injuries have not helped Boey to get a run in the starting XI.

Boey’s compatriot, Dayot Upamecano, is certainly part of Bayern’s long-term plans. The French defender has recovered from a knee injury. He made his return to action last weekend against Auckland City FC.

Upamecano has excelled under Vincent Kompany in the last 12 months. Eberl admitted that Bayern are in contract talks with him. The Bavarian club is very keen on extending Upamecano’s contract beyond 2026. In an ideal scenario, Die Roten will sort the future of Upamecano before the end of the summer transfer window.
