Bayern Munich add championship winger to the list of summer targets
Bayern Munich may be looking to strengthen their attacking ranks during next year’s summer transfer window. With Leroy Sane’s contract expiring at the end of the current season, and the uncertainty around Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman’s future, Bayern will look to bring in reinforcements for the winger position.
According to Florian Plettenberg from Sky Sports in Germany, Burnley player and Italian youth international Luca Koleosho has emerged as a potential transfer target for FC Bayern.
The Vincent Kompany Connection
Vincent Kompany, who previously worked as head coach at Burnley, brought in the young left winger from Espanyol for a reported fee of £2.6m at the start of the 2023–24 season. Koleosho would go on to play 15 games for the Clarets that season, netting his only goal in a 5–0 victory against Sheffield United.
Following an impressive individual performance against Arsenal in the Premier League last season, Vincent Kompany spoke highly of Koleosho: “He’s just a fearless player, it doesn’t really matter who he’s up against.”
After suffering relegation from the Premier League, Burney are now back in the EFL Championship where Koleosho has played 11 games and scored two goals so far this season.
Vincent Kompany, who is now the head coach of Bayern Munich, could be the driving factor behind the potential transfer of the 20-year-old to Munich as he already knows the player and also rates him very highly.
Uncertainty looms over the future of current Bayern wingers
Despite a good start to the season, it is evident that left-wingers Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry have both declined over the past few years, and their time with Bayern might be nearing an end. Leroy Sane, who occasionally plays on the left-hand side, also has question marks over his Bayern future as his contract runs out next summer. Bryan Zaragoza is currently on loan at La Liga side Osasuna for the entire length of this season. As per reports the Spanish winger isn’t firmly included in Bayern’s plans for next season and hence, may be sold in the coming summer.
All of these factors point toward Bayern’s need of bringing in a new left-winger. Having secured the services of a talented right winger in Michael Olise, it will make sense for the club to obtain a similar caliber of young talent for the left-hand side.
As of now, there’s just a preliminary interest in Luca Koleosho. More internal discussions will follow before we find out if Bayern are willing to start talks with the player and the club.
