The changing of the guard

Bayern will bid farewell to Leon Goretzka, a member of the legendary sextuple squad, after eight years at the club. Both sides decided to part ways at the end of the season, letting the German midfielder leave as a free agent.

Goretzka had a decent season, however, mostly off the bench. Vincent Kompany has turned to Aleksandar Pavlovic, another former academy standout, to run the double-pivot with Joshua Kimmich this season. With the signing of another talented midfielder, Tom Bischof, last summer, Leon Goretzka fell off the hierarchy. Pavlovic and Bischof will rotate for a spot next to Kimmich next season, a fresh look for Bayern's midfield.

Between the posts, we have seen the emergence of a new star. Jonas Urbig has become a trustworthy option for Bayern Munich despite being only 22. He consistently delivered top-notch performance, not only in the shot-stopping department but also in his distribution. Although Manuel Neuer has renewed his contract with Bayern, he will take a bigger step back next season in favour of young Urbig.
