Bayern Munich are more than likely to look for a new goalkeeper in the next summer transfer window. Manuel Neuer has already hinted that this could be his last season at Bayern. The 40-year-old will likely hang up his boots instead of looking for a move away from Bavaria.
Sven Ulreich is also expected to retire from the game at the end of this season. In such a scenario, Bayern will be left with only Jonas Urbig as the senior goalkeeper in the squad. The club chiefs are banking on Urbig to be the long-term successor of Neuer, but they will need a solid deputy for him.
Bayern have been recently linked with Augsburg’s Finn Dahmen. The 28-year-old goalkeeper has been part of the German national team during the international break after delivering impressive performances at the club level.
Dahmen is reportedly at the top of the list of goalkeepers Bayern are monitoring for next summer. While talking to Bild (via iMiaSanMia), Augsburg’s head coach Manuel Baum addressed reports linking Dahmen to Bayern. Baum believes that Dahmen is good enough to play at a club like Bayern and opened the door to his potential exit next summer.

Augsburg would ideally like Danhem to sign a new deal this season so that they can get a fee for him next summer if Bayern come calling. However, Die Roten will look to reach a pre-contract agreement with the German international in January to land him on a free transfer in the summer. They had agreed a similar deal for Alexander Nubel a few years ago.
Danhem has a decision to make regarding playing time
If the 28-year-old goalkeeper decides to leave Augsburg for Bayern, he will have to decide on his game time. It looks certain that Jonas Urbig will be the first-choice goalkeeper for Bayern once Neuer retires. Danhem may have to be content with opportunities in domestic cup games.
Finn Danhem has been called up for the German national team on the back of his performances for Augsburg. He is playing every week in the Bundesliga, increasing his visibility to Jürgen Klopp, Germany’s head coach. His chances of playing for Germany may suffer if his game time dips after joining Die Roten next summer.
Bayern have other Bundesliga options on their shortlist, but Danhem is the most attractive one due to his quality and experience in the Bundesliga. It remains to be seen if Danhem is ready to be a second-choice goalkeeper at the age of 28.
