Bayern Munich have started working on transfers for the winter transfer window. Earlier this week, Bayern’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, confirmed that a lot of work needs to be done in January to strengthen the squad. Bayern are expected to be without a few players for weeks due to the AFCON and Asian Cup.

Along with adding senior players to the squad, Die Roten are also focussing on getting the best young talent to the club. They have already confirmed a deal for Adelaide United’s Nestory Irankunda. The deal for the young winger was finally completed this month after several rounds of negotiations.

Bayern are also looking to sign a highly-rated Assan Ouedraogo from Schalke. The 17-year-old midfielder has been in fine form for Schalke in the 2. Bundesliga. Die Roten have already held talks with the representatives of the German midfielder, but they are not currently leading the race to sign him.

According to SportBild, RB Leipzig are currently the front-runner to sign Ouedraogo from Schalke. Leipzig have been working on a deal to get Ouedraogo for several months. Despite leading the race for the young midfielder, nothing is yet to be finalised between all parties.

Bayern are eager to add top-quality German talent to the squad, so they are expected to put up a good fight to sign Ouedraogo. Christoph Freund has managed to sign top young talents during his stint at RB Salzburg. Die Roten will hope that he manages to get this deal over the line by providing the perfect vision for Ouedraogo regarding his development.

From the player’s perspective, the German midfielder will look to join a club where there is a better chance of breaking into the senior team. RB Leipzig may provide him instant opportunities in the first team since they have a good success rate of nurturing young talent. However, Bayern also have a case of giving Ouedraogo a great platform to develop, as they did with Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, and Mathys Tel.

Apart from Leipzig and Bayern, AC Milan have also been credited with interest in Ouedraogo. The German midfielder may not move in January, but a deal for a summer could well be agreed in the winter transfer window. The next few weeks may give a much clearer picture of the youngster’s destination for the next season. Bayern urgently needs to strengthen the senior squad, but this transfer is definitely one to watch for them.
