Bayern Munich agree fee with Adelaide United for Nestory Irankunda
Bayern Munich have been shrewd and smart when it comes to signing young players in the last five years. They managed to beat several big clubs to sign Alphonso Davies from Vancouver Whitecaps in 2018. Bayern also managed to move swiftly when Jamal Musiala was leaving Chelsea. Both players have firmly established themselves as key players for Die Roten since arriving in Munich.
The Bavarian club cannot compete with big Premier League clubs and State-backed clubs to sign established stars. It is not economically smart and feasible to be part of bidding wars for players with the club. Bayern will still sign star players like they did in the summer by getting Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur. However, they have to keep getting the best young talent and nurture them to become world-beaters.
It does look like Bayern have won the race to get one of the most exciting young talents in Australia. According to Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Bayern have agreed a fee worth €3 million plus add-ons for Adelaide United’s Nestory Irankunda.
Die Roten have been negotiating with the Australian club for months to get this deal over the line. Kicker in Germany has also confirmed that both clubs are close to completing the transfer. Irankunda will join Bayern when the transfer window opens in the summer.
Nestory Irankunda has been one of the most exciting wide players in the A-League. He has terrific pace and dribbling to cause problems for the defenders. The 17-year-old forward also can unleash powerful shots to score goals. The youngster is not a prolific goal-scorer but surely has the skills to become a complete wide player in the future.
The young forward is expected to initially play in the reserves team when he arrives in Bavaria. Die Roten will slowly integrate him into the first team training and become a part of the first team squad. Considering the raw skills and potential Irankunda has shown for Adelaide United, he can definitely make an impact in the first team at Bayern, like Davies and Musiala.

Bayern are expected to conclude such deals under Christoph Freund. The Austrian sporting director wants to maintain balance in Die Roten’s recruitment when it comes to signing young players and stars. He did a fine job of signing and nurturing young talent at RB Salzburg. The deal for Irankunda has been in the pipeline for several months, but Freund may have accelerated the talks since starting in the sporting director role at Bayern on September 1.
