Bayern Munich may not be firing on all cylinders right now, but they’ve made an impressive start to the new season. Die Roten find themselves two points off the top of the Bundesliga having already played Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig, two of the tougher opponents. Bayern have also taken six points from a possible six in the first two rounds of the Champions League.

Despite the early success, one of their biggest stars is reportedly contemplating a move abroad. This is according to a report this morning in BILD [Paid], which indicates that Leroy Sane is set to make a big decision next summer. Either extend his contract or face being sold with Barcelona and Real Madrid believed to be the two front-runners for his signature.

Negotiations between Bayern and Sane are currently on hold following the departure of sports director Hasan Salihamidzic at the end of May. Christoph Freund is now in charge of contract negotiations, but the discussion with Sane has yet to gain any momentum. Much of the focus over the summer was dedicated to signing Harry Kane, with the transfer saga taking a lot of effort and time by Bayern’s management team.

The purchase of Kane has already paid dividends with the England striker seamlessly settling into life in Munich. In fact, his partnership with Sane has been one of the early bright spots for Bayern.

To keep your stars, you usually have to pay well, which Bayern can, and show a commitment to winning, which is woven into the fabric of the club. The purchase of Harry Kane is another example of the commitment Bayern have to improving the squad and attacking every trophy.

Barcelona and Real Madrid waiting in the wings for Bayern Munich star Sane

According to the report in BILD, if Sane were to make a move, it would likely be to Spain. Barcelona are still experiencing financial issues at the moment and money in 2024 will be tight. They already need to sell a key figure to ensure they can sign Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix on permanent transfers and with the emergence of young stud Lamine Yamal, a right-sided forward is not a key priority.

Over at Real Madrid, all indications point to Kylian Mbappe joining next summer, and if that’s the case I find it hard to believe that they’ll shell out more money on a forward like Leroy Sane.

Right now, this is all rumour and conjecture. I’m sure Christoph Freund is planning to hold talks with Sane’s representatives in the coming weeks or months, and ideally, he’ll sign way before the summer transfer window opens.

Sane has started the campaign in the best possible way. He is enjoying life under Thomas Tuchel, which may help Die Roten in negotiating a new deal at the club. Unless there is a serious breakdown in the relationship between Bayern and Sane it will be difficult to see him leave in the near future.
