Bayern Munich: Leroy Sane enjoying playing in current system
After the embarrassing 3-0 defeat against RB Leipzig in the DFL Supercup, Bayern Munich has enjoyed a good start to the Bundesliga campaign. The defending champions have won all of their three league games until now, ticking almost every box when it comes to collective performance.
The wins against Werder Bremen and Augsburg were convincing and emphatic as they scored eight goals across two games. The most impressive performance came against Borussia Monchengladbach at Borussia Park on matchday three.
After going a goal down in the first half, Bayern bounced back in the second period to clinch a 2-1 victory. Considering Gladbach’s recent results against Die Roten at home, it was a pivotal victory for Thomas Tuchel’s men so early in the season.
Leroy Sane has been one of the key contributors for Bayern in all three games. The German winger has scored three goals in three league games this season. He has looked back to his best and crucially more consistent across 90 minutes. While talking to Kicker recently (via iMiaSanMia), Sane credited Tuchel and the system at Bayern for his good start to the season.
"“I feel really, really good. I already felt very good in pre-season. I feel the full trust of the coach and the club, the communication is very good, the current system suits me well. I’m enjoying the daily work. I hope things will continue this way, also with the national team”"
Sane has been starting on the right flank for Bayern this season, but he is often seen occupying central areas in the final third. The German forward has been much more efficient with his shooting and passes in the final third. He has been heavily involved in all of Die Roten’s good attacking moves this season.
The sample size is small, but there are definitely a lot of positives to take from Sane’s performances in the first three league games. The onus is on the player to become much more consistent and improve the output in the final third. Leroy Sane should ideally target 20 goals and 20 assists for Bayern across all competitions this season.
In the interview with Kicker, Leroy Sane also praised Harry Kane. The English striker has hit the ground running for Die Roten with three goals and one assist in the Bundesliga. Sane believes that Kane is the perfect number nine to have in the current system for the team to flourish in the final third.

Bayern will need both Sane and Kane to continue their good start to the season after the international break. The Bavarian club will be hosting league leaders Bayer Leverkusen next weekend. Leverkusen has been playing attractive attacking football under former Bayern midfielder Xabi Alonso. The Champions League campaign will also begin for Die Roten later this month with a home game against Manchester United.
