Bayern Munich: Manuel Neuer could return after international break
It was a very positive weekend for Bayern Munich. The Bavarian club kicked off the Bundesliga campaign with an emphatic victory against Werder Bremen. Harry Kane has hit the ground running for Bayern with a goal and assist on Wednesday, while other players also delivered positive performances.
Die Roten also managed to keep a clean sheet against Bremen. They struggled to keep the opposition quiet consistently last season. Sven Ulreich did a fine job in the goal as he remains Bayern’s number two in the absence of Manuel Neuer.
Bayern has also provided a positive update on the recovery of Manuel Neuer. The German international has been training individually at Sabner Strasse after undergoing surgery to remove metal implants in his legs. The Bavarian club confirmed that Neuer has already started doing goalkeeper drills on Friday.
Thomas Tuchel was also very positive about Neuer’s fitness after the win against Werder Bremen. While talking to media (via iMiaSanMia), Tuchel hinted towards a return for Manuel Neuer after the next international break that takes place in September.
"“We’re hoping he can resume team training in 2-3 weeks. After that a comeback will be quick if things stay as they are now.”"
Neuer has been on the sidelines since breaking the leg in a freak accident during a ski trip in December. The German goalkeeper immediately went under the knife after the accident. He was initially expected to return by the time pre-season training started in July. However, there were a few setbacks in the recovery process, which delayed his return.
The 37-year-old goalkeeper didn’t travel with the squad to Asia for the pre-season tour. He trained at Sabner Strasse before undergoing another surgery two weeks ago to remove metal implants in the leg. There has been uncertainty over the return of Manuel Neuer, but recent updates from Tuchel and Bayern suggest that he will be soon back in action.

Sven Ulreich will continue to start the game until Neuer is fully fit to play. The Bavarian club has been linked with several goalkeepers throughout the summer, but deals for them couldn’t go ahead for various reasons. After a transfer meeting last week, the club chiefs decided to beef up the goalkeeping department, but the new arrival will be effectively number three for now.
Bayern is currently working on a deal to sign Maccabi Tel Aviv goalkeeper Daniel Peretz. The 23-year-old goalkeeper will provide competition to Ulreich in the squad. The defending Bundesliga champions have reportedly submitted their first bid for the Israeli goalkeeper. Bayern will hope to conclude this deal this week.
