Will Bayern become a defensively solid team?
Bayern’s defensive frailties were on full display during the DFL Super Cup defeat against RB Leipzig. The Bavarian consistently conceded cheap goals last season. They were also allowed teams to come back into the game during the second half and end up suffering defeats.
Harry Kane will certainly solve Die Roten’s problems in the final third, but his goals will be of lesser value if the team cannot defend well. Tuchel is known for making teams defensively resolute after his spells at Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea. Bayern can certainly do with those methods next season to go deep in all competitions.
The Bavarian club will score a lot of goals next season, but their season will be defined by how they minimize errors at the back. The onus is not just on the back four. The entire team starting from number nine needs to defend well and keep as many clean sheets as possible. A resolute defensive team will have a better chance of bringing the Champions League back to Allianz Arena.
The departure of Lucas Hernandez is a blow as the Frenchman is a quality defender when he is fit. However, Die Roten has done really well to sign Kim Min-jae from Napoli to replace Hernandez. The South Korean defender was exceptional for Napoli last season. The addition of Raphael Guerreiro will add good competition in the left-back position. After last season’s dire defensive displays, it is now up to Tuchel to drill a good system into the team and make them an outfit that is difficult to beat.
