There is going to be significant transfer activity at Bayern Munich throughout August. The Bavarian club is looking to strengthen the squad by signing world-class players, but it is equally important to balance the books by finding the right clubs for fringe and young players. Malik Tillman is one of the young players at Bayern that need regular playing time next season to continue their development.

The young US international is expected to play in Eredivisie next season. According to Sport1 and Sky Sports in Germany, Bayern is close to reaching an agreement with PSV Eindhoven for the transfer of Malik Tillman. The Dutch club will sign Tillman on an initial loan with an option to buy next summer.

PSV Eindhoven will be paying a loan fee of €1 million for Tillman. They will have the option to sign the attacking midfielder on a permanent deal next summer for €12-14 million if he enjoys a good spell in Eredivisie. Meanwhile, Sport1 reports that PSV may have agreed to an obligation-to-buy clause in this deal.

Tillman’s contract at Bayern will expire at the end of next season. It remains to be seen if Bayern will extend his contract before sending him out on loan to PSV Eindhoven. The option to buy clause in the deal will make no sense for Die Roten if Tillman’s contract is not extended.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder had a very productive loan spell at Rangers last season. He ended the campaign with 12 goals and five assists in 43 games across all competitions. Rangers had the option to sign Tillman permanently this summer, but Bayern decided to cancel the clause in the deal.

The US international returned to Bayern early in May when his season was ended by a minor injury. Tillman continued his recovery at Sabner Strasse during the final month of the season. He was not part of the squad for the pre-season tour, which further indicated that he is not part of Die Roten’s plans for next season.

Malik Tillman was attracting interest from Premier League clubs Brighton and Brentford. He was also linked with Bundesliga clubs in the past few weeks. However, PSV’s interest in the forward has materialised into a concrete bid. Tillman will replace Xavi Simons, who left PSV to join Paris Saint-Germain.

The chances of playing regularly at Bayern are next to none for Malik Tillman. There is a lot of competition in his preferred position at Die Roten, so a permanent transfer will benefit all parties. Rekordmeister should ideally include a buy-back or sell-on clause if a move to PSV is a permanent transfer.
