Malik Tillman returned to Sabner Strasse at the end of the season to complete recovery from an injury that he suffered at the start of May. The young attacking midfielder is expected to leave Bayern Munich permanently this summer, but Rangers will not be his destination despite a positive loan spell at Ibrox Stadium.

According to Sky Sports in the UK, Rangers will not pursue the permanent signing of Malik Tillman after Bayern cancelled the option to buy in the loan deal. The Scottish club had the option to sign Tillman for €6 million. Rangers will receive €1 million in compensation and 10% of the fee that Die Roten will get for him from another club.

Tillman scored 12 goals for Rangers across all competitions. He also won the young player of the Season award from Scotland PFA. Brighton and Brentford are reportedly interested in the 21-year-old, so he will not be short of good offers this summer.

Bayern probably felt that they would get a much bigger fee after his good spell at Rangers, which forced them to cancel the clause in the loan deal. Tillman has one year left on his contract at Die Roten, so a permanent transfer in the current transfer window looks inevitable.

Tillman will struggle to get consistent playing time at Bayern. Several players in the first-team squad play in the number ten or second striker role. In the best-case scenario, he will end up getting game time in the early rounds of DFB Pokal. After a year of positive development at Rangers, staying at Die Roten will be a massive step back for the youngster.

Bayern will hope to receive concrete interest from several clubs for Malik Tillman in the coming weeks. They should be looking to get a fee above €10 million for the US international. In an ideal scenario, Die Roten should look to insert a sell-on or buyback clause in the deal.

Tillman is not the only player that will leave Bayern permanently from the senior squad. Benjamin Pavard and Lucas Hernandez will be the high-profile departures at Die Roten this summer. The French defenders have decided against signing new contracts, which has forced Bayern to cash in.

Bouna Sarr is also likely to bring an end to a disastrous spell at Die Roten. Ahead of AFCON next season, Sarr will need regular game time, which he will not get at Bayern. Marcel Sabitzer will also leave in the summer after his good loan spell at Manchester United, while the future of Ryan Gravenberch is also uncertain after a difficult debut season.
