Bayern Munich rejected Premier League offer for Alexander Nubel
Bayern Munich managed to sort out a transfer for Alexander Nubel before the start of their pre-season tour. Nubel has not left Bayern on a permanent deal. He will be on a season-long loan at VfB Stuttgart for next season. Stuttgart has no option to buy Nubel at the end of this loan deal.
According to Sport1’s Kerry Hau (via iMiaSanMia), Bayern rejected an offer from Crystal Palace for Nubel. The English club was offering a permanent deal or loan with an option to buy the former Schalke goalkeeper. However, Bayern preferred a loan deal for Nubel after his impressive performances in pre-season training.
The Bundesliga champions and Tuchel have not completely given up on the idea of Nubel having a future in Munich. Die Roten will keep a close eye on Nubel’s development at Stuttgart during next season. He has two years left on his contract, so Nubel will return to Bayern next summer.
Rekordmeister has always considered Nubel as a long-term successor to Manuel Neuer. Nubel had a productive loan spell at Monaco. He was open to leaving Die Roten due to lack of assurances over playing time. The former Schalke shot-stopper was expected to leave Bavaria permanently this summer.
With concerns over Manuel Neuer’s fitness, it makes sense for Bayern to keep Nubel in the club’s long-term plans. Neuer’s contract will expire next summer, so Die Roten will have a big decision to make regarding the first-choice goalkeeper. A good spell at Stuttgart will improve Nubel’s chances of becoming Bayern’s number one for the 2024/25 campaign.
New targets revealed to replace Sommer
Bayern is expected to sign a new goalkeeper this summer. Yann Sommer is pushing for a transfer to Inter Milan, so Die Roten needs a new number two. Thomas Tuchel wants a strong backup goalkeeper due to the uncertainty over the fitness of Neuer.
According to Bild, Bayern has touched base with the agents of David De Gea to replace Sommer. The Spanish goalkeeper is a free agent after spending 12 seasons at Manchester United. De Gea was on big wages at Manchester United, so it remains to be seen if his signing will be financially feasible for Die Roten.

Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has also been linked with Die Roten, but Bild insists that the Italian club has no plans to sell the Polish shot-stopper. Giorgi Mamardashvili, Yassine Bounou, David Raya, and Roberto Sanchez are the other goalkeepers that have been linked with Bayern over the past few weeks.
Sommer’s transfer to Inter Milan can take place during the pre-season tour since both clubs are in Japan. Bayern will look to secure a replacement before sanctioning the departure of the Swiss goalkeeper.
