The last few weeks have been difficult for Bayern Munich as the prospect of not winning a single major trophy this season is becoming a possibility. Die Roten has won DFL Supercup, but the season is always judged by performances and results in the Bundesliga, Champions League, and DFB Pokal.
Bayern chief feared that the objective to win the big trophies was in trouble at the end of March, so they decided to appoint a new head coach. The arrival of Thomas Tuchel in March was expected to help Rekordmeister compete across all fronts and end the season strongly.
However, Bayern’s season has unraveled in a couple of weeks under Tuchel. The Bavarian club was knocked out of the Champions League and DFB Pokal by Manchester City and Freiburg, respectively. They also slipped to second place in the Bundesliga after suffering a defeat against Mainz on matchday 28.
The decision to appoint Tuchel may reap the rewards in the long run, but the decision to change coach for the final phase of the season has definitely raised eyebrows in Germany. The key men running Bayern are under scrutiny with the threat of an axe looming over the head of the club’s CEO, Oliver Kahn.
According to SportBild’s Christian Falk, Bayern’s supervisory board will hold a meeting on May 22 to decide on the future of Oliver Kahn. The former German goalkeeper is under scrutiny after Bayern’s poor results on the pitch. Kahn took over this role in 2021 after the departure of Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
Meanwhile, Sky Sports in Germany has also confirmed that Kahn’s future is certainly in doubt for next season. The Bavarian club is unlikely to part ways with Oliver Kahn before the end of the season. If things continue to go wrong on the pitch for the rest of the season, Kahn may find it difficult to remain in his position at the club.
Along with Kahn, Hasan Salihamidzic is also likely to be under intense scrutiny due to poor output from transfers. The Bavarian club also failed to replace Robert Lewandowski last summer. The lack of a proper number nine hampered Bayern’s chances in crucial games over the past few weeks.

Kahn will desperately want Thomas Tuchel to guide Bayern to the Bundesliga title. The Bavarian team is currently trailing Borussia Dortmund by a point with six games remaining in the league. Bayern will need to win all of their remaining league games and hope for one slip-up from Dortmund to retain the league title.
