Bayern Munich returned to winning ways in the Bundesliga with a 3-0 victory against Union Berlin on Saturday. It was a significant victory for Bayern since they have struggled in the league over the past few weeks, and Union Berlin has been in sensational form this season.

The victory against Union Berlin also helped Die Roten to regain the top spot in the Bundesliga. Borussia Dortmund was briefly on top of the table after the narrow win against Hoffenheim on Saturday. Let us look at three players that made the win against Union Berlin possible on Sunday.

Thomas Muller

After not getting significant minutes on the pitch against PSG and Borussia Monchengladbach, there was a lot of talk about Thomas Muller’s role in the team. However, Julian Nagelsmann insisted that the German forward remains a key player for the club and handed him a start against Union Berlin.

Muller repaid Nagelsmann’s faith by delivering a sensational performance on Sunday. The 33-year-old forward was relentless in the final third for Die Roten. He showed great awareness to set up two goals in the first half. The only missing thing for Muller was a goal against Union Berlin to make it a perfect performance. Incredible response from Muller to speculation and criticism.

Kingsley Coman

Kingsley Coman is slowly becoming one of the most improved and key players under Nagelsmann. The French winger went straight back into the team on Sunday after missing the game against Gladbach due to a minor knock. Nagelsmann deployed him in the right wing-back role against Union Berlin.

Coman has settled into the wing-back role with ease. He was a constant menace in the final third on Sunday, delivering dangerous crosses in the box. The Frenchman’s persistence paid off when Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting converted one of his crosses to open the scoring for Die Roten. Coman also showed great composure to score the second goal. Nagelsmann and the Bavarian faithful will be praying that Coman remains fit for the rest of the season and continue his rich vein of form.

Jamal Musiala

Jamal Musiala marked his 20th birthday in style by delivering a solid performance against Union Berlin on Sunday. The German forward showed great positional awareness to drop deep when Leon Goretzka was making runs in the box. He had a pass success rate of 85%, which is solid for a player operating in a hybrid midfield role (duties of number 8 and number 10).

The youngster also had six shots in the game during his stay on the pitch, accumulating an expected goal tally of 1.06. Musiala converted one of those chances to put the game beyond Union Berlin in the added time of the first half.
