Bayern Munich cruise to victory against Union Berlin
Bayern Munich bounced back from defeat against Borussia Monchengladbach with a convincing victory against high-flying Union Berlin on Sunday. The Bavarian club scored quick goals in the first half to clinch a 3-0 victory. Bayern Munich moved back to the summit of the Bundesliga with the win against Union Berlin.
Julian Nagelsmann continues to use a back three as Josip Stanisic replaced suspended Dayot Upamecano in defense. Kingsley Coman also returned to the starting lineup in the wing-back role after missing the game against Gladbach due to a minor knock. Thomas Muller and Jamal Musiala played as two number tens behind Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.
After last weekend’s defeat, it was all about starting the game on the front foot for Bayern. They managed to achieve it against Union Berlin. They created a big chance inside five minutes that should have seen them take the lead. Choupo-Moting squared the pass to Muller inside the box, but the German forward couldn’t sort out his feet to open the scoring.
The home side had pinned Union Berlin in their half during the early period of the game. They dominated on and off the ball. Muller once again came close in the 29th minute, but Frederik Ronnow pulled off an incredible save to deny Die Roten from taking the lead.
Bayern was eventually rewarded for their effort in the 31st minute as Choupo-Moting scored his ninth league goal of the season. Coman delivered a dangerous cross in the box. Choupo-Moting rose above Union Berlin center-back pairing to nod it home.
Die Roten was relentless after getting the first goal. They were not allowing Union Berlin to play out from the back and also won every second ball when the visitors were going long. The second goal epitomized Nagelsmann’s men to give no breathing space to the opposition. Matthijs de Ligt won a header in the first half and played it to Muller. The German forward cleverly lifted the ball and found Coman through on goal. The French winger finished emphatically to double Bayern’s lead.
The game was beyond Union in the added time of the first half. Muller showed awareness to square the pass for Jamal Musiala in the box. The youngster marked his 20th birthday with his 11th goal of the Bundesliga campaign. It was a game, set and match for Die Roten in the first half.

Muller had a golden chance to round off an impressive evening with the help of a simple tap-in, but he once again failed to sort his feet and blazed the shot over the crossbar.
Sadio Mane’s return to action in the second half was another positive for Bayern. It was a complete performance from Die Roten with next to no flaws. The performance against Union Berlin sets the benchmark for the rest of the season.
