Bayern Munich: Bouna Sarr may see out contract
Bayern Munich has welcomed several injured players back in training during the last two weeks. Bouna Sarr also resumed training with the first team after a long break due to a serious knee injury. The Senegalese right-back has been training regularly for Bayern Munich in the past couple of weeks.
It remains to be seen if Sarr will get a chance to play for Bayern this season. He has failed to get playing time under Julian Nagelsmann in the past 18 months. Moreover, there are three players ahead of him in the pecking order for the right-back position.
Bayern was open to hearing offers for Sarr in the winter transfer window, but a transfer didn’t materialise. They have been open to parting ways with him since the end of his first season at the club in 2021. It does look like a summer exit is also not on the agenda for the 31-year-old right-back.
According to Sport1, Sarr may look to run down his contract at Bayern. The Bavarian club has found it difficult to get offers for the former Marseille defender in the past couple of transfer windows. Moreover, Sarr is not open to taking a pay cut to join another club, so seeing out his contract, which expires in 2024, is a genuine possibility.
Sarr has been training diligently and gets on well with his teammates, as per Sport1. It makes complete sense on the player’s part to look for the best possible solution for himself. Bayern may have to think about a loan deal where they cover most of his wages during the summer window. This is the only possible scenario that will benefit all parties.
Bayern completed the signing of Sarr during the final week of the summer transfer window in 2022. The Bavarian club wanted to sign Sergino Dest from Ajax, but he ended up signing for Barcelona. The Senegalese failed to emulate his good form from Marseille in Munich. Moreover, injuries and a lack of consistent run in the team have not helped his cause.
Sarr has been on the fringes of the squad for most of the last two seasons. He had a great run with Senegal during their AFCON win last year. The experienced right-back wanted to build on positive performances with the national team, but knee injuries have troubled him in the past 12 months.

Unless there is a significant injury crisis in the right-back position, Bouna Sarr is unlikely to play a game before the end of the season. This transfer has not worked well for either party, so Bayern needs to sit down with Sarr in the summer and find the right solution.
