Bayern Munich: Leon Goretzka pleased with team spirit in the squad
The last eight days have been disappointing for Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga. The Bavarian faithful would have liked their team to hit the ground running in Ruckrunde, but they have stumbled to three consecutive draws in the league.
Fans were optimistic about a strong start to 2023 for Bayern due to the way they had ended 2022. The record Bundesliga champions were in scintillating form before the World Cup break started in mid-November.
Die Roten was winning games comprehensively in all competitions during October. They had booked a place in the next round of the Champions League by winning all of their six group games. The Bavarian club had also booked a place in the next round of DFB Pokal.
Rekordmeister had opened up a lead of four points in the Bundesliga due to the good run of form before the World Cup. While talking to the club’s media earlier this month, Leon Goretzka insisted that team spirit in the squad got even better during the good run of form in October. The German midfielder insists that there is good chemistry among the players on the pitch.
"“The weeks before the World Cup were brilliant, we played as if we were one. You can also see that the chemistry off the pitch is top and is transferred to our game. That’s not limited to specific players. There’s a really good spirit in the team as a whole.”"
Unfortunately, Die Roten has struggled to maintain the same momentum in results at the start of Ruckrunde. The Bavarian club has dropped points in all of their three games during the last eight days. The draws against RB Leipzig, FC Koln, and Eintracht Frankfurt have reduced Die Roten’s lead to one point in the Bundesliga.
Leon Goretzka’s comments do suggest that there is great camaraderie amongst the group, so they will be able to bounce back from the latest setback. Even a scratchy win in the league will boost the confidence of the squad, and things will start looking brighter for them.
Julian Nagelsmann has shown great tactical acumen earlier this season to get out of a similar run of poor form. The German coach made changes to the system and reportedly consulted senior players to change their approach to the game. Eventually, these changes helped them to get back in form and go on a long winning run across all competitions.

As per Bild, Bayern players and coaching staff had a brunch together on Sunday, which would definitely help in lifting the spirits of the squad after a poor run of form. Nagelsmann and squad will be looking to bounce back from these poor results by defeating Mainz in DFB Pokal round of 16 on Wednesday.
