Bayern Munich suffer third consecutive draw in the Bundesliga
Things are going from bad to worse for Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga at the start of 2023. The Bavarian giants suffered another disappointing result on Saturday as they were held for a 1-1 draw by Eintracht Frankfurt at Allianz Arena. It was the third consecutive 1-1 draw for Bayern since the resumption of the Bundesliga on January 20.
Julian Nagelsmann made three changes to the team that started against FC Koln on Tuesday. Thomas Muller replaced injured Leon Goretzka, while Serge Gnabry made way for Kingsley Coman. Josip Stanisic was given a start in the right-back position instead of Benjamin Pavard.
Bayern started the game on the front foot, pressing aggressively in the final third. The team was well set up to get an early lead and build on it as the game progressed. However, Frankfurt was also defensively solid to survive the early onslaught from the home side.
There was a solid linkup play between wide players and full-backs of Bayern. Jamal Musiala was also getting on the ball consistently and beating players with his dribbling. The positive approach from Die Roten was eventually rewarded in the 34th minute.
Josip Stanisic found Thomas Muller on the right flank with a neat pass. The German forward showed composure to get his head up and find Leroy Sane in the box. Sane converted the cross with a great first-attempt effort. Die Roten deservedly got ahead and looked well set to control the game in front of the home support.
However, things went haywire for Bayern in the second half. Frankfurt managed to make it an end-to-end game, which helped them to create chances on the breakaways. Meanwhile, Rekordmeister also looked very inefficient in the final third, which stopped them from scoring the crucial second goal.
Frankfurt’s perseverance eventually paid off in the 69th minute. Daichi Kamada played a brilliant no-look pass to find Randal Kolo Muani in the box. The French striker unleashed a venomous shot to beat Yann Sommer from a tight angle.
Bayern never recovered from Frankfurt’s equaliser. The visitors looked more likely to get the crucial second goal. The lack of cohesion in the attack after the setback during the game will concern Julian Nagelsmann. Frankfurt quite comfortably saw out the remaining game to take a very good point from Allianz Arena.

The result against Frankfurt meant Bayern’s lead at the top of the points table reduced to one point. Die Roten needs to get back to winning ways in the Bundesliga sooner rather than later, or they will lose their top spot in the coming weeks.
