The last couple of months has been frustrating for Bayern Munich when it comes to injuries for senior players. Sadio Mane missed the entire World Cup 2022 due to an injury to the tibia. The Senegalese forward is expected to be out for three months.

Lucas Hernandez has been ruled out for the rest of the season after rupturing his cruciate ligament in his right knee during France’s 4-1 win against Australia in the first group game of the World Cup.  Further misery on Bayern was piled late in mid-December as Manuel Neuer broke his leg during a ski trip. The German international will be missing the entire second half of the season.

Die Roten has no plans to find replacements for Mane and Hernandez during the winter transfer window. However, they do want to bring in a goalkeeper to fill in for Neuer. They want to strengthen the goalkeeping department with an astute addition for a tough Ruckrunde.

Hasan Salihamidzic and Bayern decided to recall Alexander Nubel from his loan spell at Monaco. The Bavarian club has been in talks with Monaco to bring an end to Nubel’s loan, but they are yet to find a breakthrough. The discussions continued between both clubs this week.

According to Bild on Friday, Bayern chiefs have set a deadline of January 6 for getting a replacement for Neuer. They want a deal to be concluded for a shot-stopper before the first team leaves for the winter camp in Doha next week. The number one for Ruckrunde will be integrated into the squad two weeks before the resumption of the Bundesliga on January 20.

Salihamidzic and Die Roten are facing a race against time to seal a deal for Nubel. The German goalkeeper played for Monaco on Wednesday in Ligue 1. Nubel also insisted that he wants to stay in Ligue 1 for the rest of the season. It remains to be seen when Bayern will stop negotiations with Monaco and move on to another target since there are seven days left for the team’s flight to Doha.

The record Bundesliga champions do have another target in mind if Nubel doesn’t return to Bavaria in January. Bayern is expected to make a move for Borussia Monchengladbach’s Yann Sommer. The Swiss goalkeeper will not cost a fortune since he has less than six months left on his current deal.

Salihamidzic has done a fine job in the transfer market over the last 18 months. He will be looking to add another feather to his cap by sorting the goalkeeping issue before the deadline set by the club.
