Bayern Munich received a massive injury blow this week as Sadio Mane was ruled out of the World Cup 2022. The 30-year-old forward suffered a blow to his fibula during last week’s 6-1 win against Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga. Mane has started the recovery process for the injury by undergoing surgery on Thursday.

Reports in Germany are suggesting Sadio Mane is expected to be out on the sidelines for more than three months. As things stand, Mane is unlikely to feature in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 tie against Paris Saint-Germain in February.

Despite the severity of Mane’s injury, Bayern is not altering their plans for the winter transfer window. According to Sky Sports in Germany, Die Roten will not be signing a forward in January to fill the void left by Mane for the next three months. The Bavarian club is focussing on summer deals instead of welcoming new players in January.

Earlier this week, Daily Mail in England reported that Bayern is lining up a shock move for Manchester United for Cristiano Ronaldo. However, the German media insisted that club chiefs have no plan to sign the Portuguese superstar. The Bavarian club had rejected the chance to sign Ronaldo in the summer since he doesn’t fit into the club’s long-term strategy.

Die Roten is expected to make a move for a striker in the summer window. The record Bundesliga champions are heavily linked with Spurs forward Harry Kane. Since Kane has less than 18 months left on his current deal at Tottenham Hotspur, Bayern is expected to test the resolve of the English club in the summer.

The only possible signing in January is Konrad Laimer from RB Leipzig. Even if the Austrian midfielder reaches an agreement with Bayern in January, he will only join in the summer on a free transfer.  Bayern is reportedly confident about winning the race for the signing of Laimer.

Die Roten tried hard to sign Laimer in the summer, but Leipzig rejected all of their three bids. Laimer will become a free agent at the end of the current season. Apart from Laimer, there is unlikely to be any big breakthrough on transfers for Rekordmeister in January.

Mane’s injury will lead to more opportunities for Mathys Tel. The French teenager has been very impressive for Die Roten in limited opportunities this season. Tel will have a big role to play in the second half of the season since Nagelsmann will consistently rotate the team due to the workload of players. It is looking certain that Bayern will use internal options in the absence of Mane.
