Bayern Munich is expected to be inactive in the winter transfer window. The club’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has insisted that the focus will be on the summer. Bayern is expected to make another effort to sign one of the midfield targets that they failed to land last summer.

According to SportBild (via iMiaSanMia), Die Roten remains interested in Konrad Laimer from RB Leipzig. The Bavarian club is confident about signing him on a free transfer. Rekordmeister enjoys a very good relationship with Laimer’s agents since they worked together to sign Sadio Mane in the summer. Unless there is a big turnaround, Laimer is likely to play football in Munich from next season.

Bayern was very eager to sign Laimer last summer, but RB Leipzig was in no mood to part ways with one of their key players. They ended up rejecting three bids from Bayern for the Austrian midfielder. Laimer was keen on moving to Munich since he reportedly agreed to personal terms with the Bavarian club.

Leipzig is now expected to lose Laimer on a free transfer in the next summer transfer window. The Austrian midfielder will be an attractive midfield option for several top clubs due to his quality, and he will not command a transfer fee. Liverpool will reportedly provide Bayern stiff competition for Laimer.

Signing Laimer on a free transfer will be a very smart move from Bayern. He has been a very good player for Leipzig in the center of the park over the past few seasons. The Austrian midfielder is going to get better as he enters the peak years of his career. Moreover, Laimer is familiar with Julian Nagelsmann’s system after working with him at Leipzig for two years.

From a financial point of view, signing Laimer is a no-brainer. The majority of transfer funds for next summer will be allocated to signing a world-class number nine. In such a scenario, adding another midfielder on a free transfer will further elevate the quality of the squad without compromising transfer funds.

Bayern will be looking to seal the signing of Laimer in January. He will be free to sign a pre-contract agreement in the winter window and eventually complete the move in January. The Austrian midfielder recently admitted that he was very keen to join Die Roten, so he will definitely jump on the opportunity to sign a pre-contract agreement in January. Apart from Leipzig, this transfer will benefit all parties.
