Bayern Munich: Jamal Musiala set for a monumental season
It has been a serene start to the season for Bayern Munich. The departure of Robert Lewandowski seems to have not affected the team as they have looked even more dangerous while going forward. The fluid front four has caused havoc in the three competitive games Bayern has played until now.
There were numerous positives from Die Roten’s wins against Eintracht Frankfurt, Wolfsburg, and RB Leipzig. However, the pick of the bunch has been the form of Jamal Musiala. The youngster has started the new campaign on fire, scoring four goals in three games for Die Roten. He is currently the leading goalscorer in the Bundesliga after two match days.
Musiala started the season with a place in the starting XI as Julian Nagelsmann preferred him over Leroy Sane. The youngster played well in midfield last season, but Nagelsmann decided to go with him in the front four. Musiala has taken up great scoring positions centrally, which is the key reason behind him being on the scoresheet every game this season.
The young German international has also got better physically this summer. He can shrug off defenders easily to make space for taking shots in and around the box. Jamal Musiala also is very good at dribbling past players in tight spaces, which makes him an ideal forward to have in the starting XI. In his column for Sky Sports, Lothar Matthaus insisted that Musiala has everything to become a world-class player.
"“Definitely. He’s got everything for that. He’s already ahead of players who have done great things. He remains down-to-earth, that’s important if you want to be a big player – I’m sure he will be.”"
Jamal Musiala had two good seasons as a first-team player at Bayern, but 2022/23 could be the breakthrough year for him. He is going to get much more playing time this season higher up the pitch, where he is a dangerous player. His decision-making has improved, and he is a much more mature player than he was in the last two seasons.
It was unlikely that Musiala would be in starting lineup from the word go this season, but Nagelsmann’s decision is paying off. The German international is slowly cementing his place in the team amidst intense competition for places in the attack.
Musiala still has a long way to go from becoming a world-class player, but he definitely has the potential to reach that stage. The current campaign can provide him the platform to firmly establish himself as one of the top players across Europe in his position. For now, he is in the mix to win the Golden Boy Award from Tuttosport, which will be decided by votes from fans. (Bavarian faithful start voting for Musiala here)

Apart from big objectives for Bayern this season, Jamal Musiala also has a momentous year ahead with the German national team. He is set to be part of the German team, which will be playing in the World Cup later this year. Hansi Flick will be pleased with the way he has started the season. With all the events coming up this year and the amazing start to the season, this could well turn out to be big 12 months for him.
