Bayern Munich: Tanguy Nianzou close to joining Sevilla
With less than three weeks left in the transfer window, Bayern Munich is expected to accelerate the process of finding new clubs for fringe players. Die Roten is almost done for the window when it comes to arrivals, but three players could still leave Bavaria.
Tanguy Nianzou is set to be the first of three departures that will be taking place in the next few days. According to L’Equipe and Fabrizio Romano, Nianzou is close to joining Sevilla on a permanent transfer. The French media outlet has even insisted that Tanguy Nianzou will be in Seville later today to complete the move.
SportBild’s Christian Falk has also confirmed that Nianzou is close to joining Sevilla. The defending Bundesliga champions are looking to get a fee worth €20 million, including bonuses. Bayern also wants to include a sell-on and buy-back clause in the deal.
Nianzou was expected to leave Bayern as soon as Matthijs de Ligt arrived in Bavaria from Juventus earlier this summer. The French defender is currently the fifth-choice center-back in the squad, which will make it difficult for him to get adequate playing time this season.
Bayern’s sporting director, Hasan Salihamidzic, has praised Nianzou on numerous occasions since signing him from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer in 2020. The Bavarian club rates Nianzou highly, but he needs to play regularly to continue his development. A move away from Bavaria with a buyback clause for Die Roten will be the best solution for all parties.
After struggling with injury problems in his debut season in Bavaria, Tanguy Nianzou made 22 appearances for Die Roten last season. Most of his appearances came from the bench, which meant his overall game time was just over 800 minutes. He would have anticipated more playing time this season since Niklas Sule left the club to join Borussia Dortmund. However, Die Roten decided to replace Sule with de Ligt.
The 20-year-old defender has the potential to become a quality defender. A move to Sevilla will help him to play in the Champions League regularly and get consistent playing time. Bayern will definitely follow his development in Sevilla with a view of buying him back in the future if things go as per plan.

The departure of Tanguy Nianzou also confirms that Benjamin Pavard is staying at Bayern. The French defender was heavily linked with a move away from Bavaria during the pre-season. However, his strong start to the season has made sure that Bayern is keeping him. He will become an option in the heart of the defense, but the majority of his game time will come in the right-back position.
