Bayern Munich has started the new campaign with the center-back partnership of Dayot Upamecano and Lucas Hernandez. Julian Nagelsmann has considerable depth in this position after the signing of Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus, while Benjamin Pavard can do a good job in the heart of the defense.

The arrival of de Ligt has raised doubts over the immediate future of Tanguy Nianzou at Bayern. As things stand, the French defender is the fifth-choice center-back in the squad. After getting decent game time last season, Nianzou may not get the desired playing time this year. He may have to seek a loan move with Ligue 1 emerging as a potential destination.

According to GGFN, OGC Nice is considering a loan move for Tanguy Nianzou. The hierarchy is split on signing a young defender, but Nianzou is one of the defenders under consideration. The French club is yet to open talks with Die Roten to explore this deal.

Bayern is open to parting ways with Tanguy Nianzou before the end of the transfer window. The Bavarian club and Hasan Salihamidzic rate Nianzou highly, so a permanent transfer is unlikely to take place. Die Roten will be open to a loan move to make sure that the French defender gets consistent playing time this season.

Nianzou endured a difficult debut season in Bavaria after arriving from PSG in 2020. The French defender struggled with injuries throughout the 2020/21 campaign, making it difficult for him to stake a claim for a place in the starting XI.

The second season for Nianzou at Bayern was much better. He ended up getting game time of 874 minutes across all competitions, managing one goal and one assist in 22 appearances. Nianzou needs to play much more regularly this season to continue his development. (Stats courtesy: Transfermarkt)

Bayern would ideally like Nianzou to get a loan move in the Bundesliga. The French defender will get accustomed to Bundesliga football and eventually return to Bavaria next summer to compete for a place in the starting XI. Chris Richards benefited from a loan move to Hoffenheim in the last 18 months, so a similar approach for a temporary transfer can help Nianzou.

If Nianzou requests a permanent move this summer, then Bayern should be looking to insert a buy-out clause. The French defender has the potential to be a top defender, so securing his long-term future should be a priority for Die Roten. The coming three weeks will decide where Nianzou’s immediate future lies.
