Bayern Munich was expected to make moves for attacking players this summer. The Bavarian club needed reinforcements in the attack since Robert Lewandowski was expected to join Barcelona. The Polish striker eventually got his wish, while Bayern Munich replaced him by signing Sadio Mane and Mathys Tel.

Die Roten had explored transfers for several top attacking talents in Europe before sealing the signings of Mane and Tel. According to Sport1 (via iMiaSanMia), Bayern had also enquired about the availability of Chelsea’s Kai Havertz. The German forward was considered as one of the candidates to replace Lewandowski.

Things didn’t move ahead with Bayern’s approach for Havertz beyond preliminary talks. The former Bayer Leverkusen forward will be staying at Chelsea. Die Roten will continue to monitor his situation at Stamford, but any move will only take place if one of their star forwards leaves in the near future.

Havertz was heavily linked with a move to Bavaria before a sealed transfer to Chelsea in 2020. The German forward has not been a prolific goalscorer for Chelsea, but he has been a key player for Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge. He scored the winner for Chelsea in the Champions League final against Manchester City two years ago.

The former Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder has largely played as a number nine for Chelsea, so it is not surprising to see Die Roten considering him as a possible replacement for Lewandowski. Havertz is still very young, so a move to Bayern in the future can definitely take place.

Bayern is hoping to see other forwards step up in the absence of Lewandowski. The Bavarian move quickly sealed a deal for Liverpool’s world-class forward, Sadio Mane. The Senegalese forward can play across the front three. Julian Nagelsmann has used him as a number nine in the first two games of the season, but the front four has been very flexible.

Along with Mane, Die Roten also decided to heavily invest in Mathys Tel from Rennes. The 17-year-old forward is hailed as the next big attacking talent from France. Tel made his debut against Frankfurt last weekend. He is expected to be part of the first team squad this season.

Bayern has completed the majority of the transfer business for this summer. The German Champions want to sign Konrad Laimer from RB Leipzig to strengthen the midfield department. However, a transfer is looking unlikely at the moment as Leipzig is eager to keep Laimer.
