Ahead of the DFL Supercup clash against RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich is looking to complete the transfer business for new arrivals. After securing the signing of Matthijs de Ligt last weekend, Die Roten is now looking to strengthen the midfield and attack.
For strengthening the midfield options, Rekordmeister is interested in signing Konrad Laimer from Leipzig. The Bavarian club had the first bid just below €20 million was rejected earlier in the window. It does look like the second bid from the German Champions has also failed to convince Leipzig to part ways with Laimer.
According to Bild, the latest offer from Die Roten for Laimer is worth €23 million, including add-ons. Leipzig has rejected this bid as they are looking to get €30 million in one installment. The two clubs will continue to hold talks to find an agreement.
Laimer has already agreed to a move to Die Roten. The Austrian midfielder will either move to Bavaria this summer for a transfer fee or join the German Champions as a free agent at the end of next season. Laimer has set his heart on the move to Bayern, so offers from other clubs are unlikely to be entertained by him.
Leipzig has been reluctant to sell one more player to Bayern. In the past one year, Leipzig has sold Dayot Upamecano and Marcel Sabitzer. They also received a world record fee from Die Roten for head coach Julian Nagelsmann. Selling top players to Die Roten sets a dangerous precedent for Leipzig. However, the contract situation of Laimer puts them in a difficult position.
Bayern is likely planning to use Laimer as cover for Joshua Kimmich. The German Champions will need more depth in this position since the schedule for next season will be hectic due to World Cup in November. Moreover, Leon Goretzka has lately struggled with knee injuries. He is currently on the sidelines due to a knee problem.
Die Roten will be hoping to reach an agreement with Leipzig by the time team returns from the pre-season tour. If things accelerate quickly, Laimer could end up playing against Leipzig in DFB Pokal later this month.

Apart from Laimer, Bayern is also working on a deal to sign Mathys Tel from Rennes. The German Champions are waiting for the response from Rennes as they made a third bid for the young forward. Earlier this week, Hasan Salihamidzic travelled to France to hold talks with Rennes. He will be looking to conclude the signings of Tel and Laimer sooner rather than later before focussing on the remaining departures from the first team.
