The attacking area of the senior squad at Bayern Munich has been strengthened by the arrival of Sadio Mane. However, Die Roten still needs to do work in the market and contract talks to ensure that they have a strong attack for the next season.
In terms of contract negotiations, Serge Gnabry is the priority for Bayern right now. The German forward has entered the final 12 months of his current deals. It initially looked like straightforward negotiations, but talks dragged through most of the last season without any conclusion. However, it does look like things are again moving in the right direction for a contract renewal.
According to Kicker, positive talks have been held between Bayern and Gnabry over a new deal. Chelsea has shown interest in the winger, but Gnabry is currently leaning towards a contract renewal at Rekordmeister. The positive update on contract talks has also been confirmed by Sky Sports in Germany.
Previously, Gnabry had reportedly rejected the last contract offer from Die Roten. However, Hasan Salihamidzic was confident about a breakthrough regarding a renewal. The German winger is expected to make a decision soon as he returned to training at Sabner Strasse last weekend.
Meanwhile, The Athletic is reporting that Gnabry is eager to stay in Bavaria next season. He is not eager to push for a move this summer but wants to assess all options. However, Bayern is not keen on losing another player for nothing. The Bavarian club lost Niklas Sule to Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer this month, while David Alaba left Bavaria for nothing in the last summer transfer window.
With growing uncertainty over the future of Robert Lewandowski, Bayern will be keen on holding on to Gnabry. The German forward has been a very productive player in the final third for Rekordmeister. Die Roten will not have more room in the budget to find replacements for Lewandowski and Gnabry. It will be better to keep Gnabry this summer and find an agreement over a new deal.
In terms of interest from other clubs, Real Madrid and Arsenal had been previously linked with Serge Gnabry. Chelsea has reportedly turned their attention towards Gnabry after losing the transfer battle for Leeds forward Raphinha to Barcelona.

Since there has been a positive update on contract talks with Serge Gnabry, a potential approach from Chelsea is likely to be rejected by the German Champions. Gnabry’s best years are ahead of him as he turned 27 on Thursday. The Bavarian faithful will be hoping that Gnabry will continue to excel at Allianz Arena for years to come.
